Good Ass Food Is Made For Those Who Are Challenged in the Kitchen

Good Ass Food ain’t some regular degular cookbook, but you knew that already. GAF is a combination of cuisine, comedy and culture. It’s an homage to Jamir’s roots— weeknight dinners made by his single mom who always made sure the meal was both good and good for them.

Jamir, otherwise known as @juh.meer on Blue Ivy’s internet is a thirty year old chef, writer, and content producer. Embracing the common creative struggle of being a multi-hyphenate talent, Jamir founded East Oak, a Production House centered in excellence regardless of medium.

“In full transparency, I have no formal culinary training,” Jamir declares. “I just have family on both sides that can cook. You can’t come from a long line of cooking ass aunties, and mamas, and grandparents and not pick something up along the way. Cooking has always been a shared role in our family, all the men take food as seriously as our matriarchs.”

Good Ass Food began as a code name for the project. I was compiling recipes without a real concept. It was important for me to present my perspective on food, which is approachability. Foodies sometimes come off too snobby or stuck up but this is not that. Good Ass Food is a conversation with your play cousin over a good meal. The voice is authentically Black and the story of my heritage and my legacy is being told through food and hip-hop lyrics. Good Ass Food is a cookbook, but it’s also a story tied together with a poem written by my sister titled My Black is a Rainbow.
