CareFreeBlackGirl Shines at SXSW

For its inaugural SXSW showcase, CareFreeBlackGirl showed Texas what the women’s empowerment lifestyle brand is all about. Women from all over the country came to Austin to participate in CareFreeBlackGirl’s signature cookout experience at last week’s festival.

“This is a platform for black women” says Quanna, one of CareFree’s hosts during the experience, a statement made evident almost immediately at the festival. It was one of the few SXSW events that centered black women and their art. It also touted an all-female line up of DJ’s and artists, including ATL’s 0ceanz, the official DJ of Killuminati, DJ Euts, DJ Kay Cali of California, and DJ 9 AM of Las Vegas (now based in NY).

Quanna and other CareFree host Oro5ive, engaged the crowd all night amidst wonderful performances by JACHE, Ari Chi, Queendom, Neila, Lola Bunz, Yoshi Vintage, Liana Banks, Ayanis, Quanna, and headliners Yung Baby Tate and Bbymutha. One of the highlights of the evening was a joint performance between Yung Baby Tate and Bbymutha who perfomed “Wild Girls” from Tate’s GIRLS EP, released last month. There were also special appearances by Taylor Bennett, Jean Deaux, and Queen Key of Chicago.

The showcase, in part, was possible because of CareFreeBlackGirl’s many sponsors who included Red Bull, Curls Hair Products, The Indie Creative Network, JDee Accounting Pay Me Club with vending by Shisty Clothing, Craft Princess Jewelry, Emory Holiday, and Kim Shadey Eyewear.

If you feel a way about missing the CareFreeBlackGirl showcase at SXSW, don’t worry. Following the experience at the festival, the lifestyle brand will be kicking off a 10-city tour which will hit the metropolitan cities of Philadelphia, Charlotte, Brooklyn, Savannah, DC and will end at Atlanta’s A3C Festival & Conference, along with Miami’s Art Basel.
