What is something not too many people know about you?
I used to write scary stories when I was in 2nd grade. My teacher would let me read them to the class. I’m not really sure why I chose to write scary shit. But I do remember I was into mystery books heavy back then. That was a lit time for me.
Why did you start to make music?
I really started making music after I started chilling at my friend Tyler’s crib. He would always be cooking up beats in this program called Logic Pro 9. I remember being so fascinated with the idea of making a beat or song from scratch. Fast forward a couple months, we started releasing music and getting love from kids in our high school.
What's your favorite type of music to listen to right now?
Uhh... Coach Wave? Nah I’m joking. I really like listening to all types of music, but mainly from people I know. I’m currently listening to Micheal Autumn, TREK, Deem Spencer, and my bro Amir Tripp. Established artist wise? It can vary on the day. I usually like listening to Frank Ocean. I bump less conventional rap music than people would think. When it comes to my music, I don’t try to make music for anybody but myself. I’m trying to figure out how to make music for animals exclusively.
What inspires you most?
Ever since this year started I've been traveling to places that I've never been before. I'd say traveling has become my biggest inspiration. The most interesting trip so far was when I went to Italy and Germany. Germany was fire—cool ass typography everywhere but Italy definitely had me sold. From the ban on GMO products to the freshness of the air. Niggas really gotta leave America sometimes. It ain’t shit. Imma live there in 2030.
What is your definition of success?
My definition of success is being happy and healthy.
What are your goals for the future?
I just want to continue growing as an artist and a creative. I don't see myself really trying to be a “rapper," however, I would love to produce and design on some crazy shit. Also, getting into the music publishing side of things. This is not one-sided. Life ain’t shit really.
Tell us something about the project/projects you're working on?
Green Island 4. A 7-track EP out now. I made all this music for myself like I wasn't going to let anyone hear it. That’s my plan until I stop dropping music as Coach Wave. Green Island 10 coming soon. :)
